PSA: If you have any bench warrants for your arrest, there are a few ways to clean it up, like:
- Hiring an attorney (like us!) to try to clear it up for you;
- Turning yourself in to authorities and addressing it; or
- If it’s just for a traffic ticket, calling the court and making a payment plan.
One method that will definitely not work is falling for the latest scam that asks you to put down a “bond” by paying thousands of dollars into a Bitcoin terminal.
Bitcoin was established over 15 years ago as an alternative to regular money. It’s called a “cryptocurrency” and even though we’ve watched documentaries on the subject, we still have no idea how to explain why anybody uses it. Law enforcement deals in good old dollars and cents, and that’s it.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele, along with Montgomery County Sheriff Sean Kilkenny, held a press conference earlier today on the topic to warn residents. According to a CBS News article posted earlier today, the scam comes in the form of an email and tries to convince you that you can magically get out of arrest warrants by paying money into a Bitcoin terminal. One person has actually fallen for it.
We have had lots of success over the years convincing police departments and prosecutors’ offices to rescind bench warrants. When you hire an attorney, you’re indicating to the courts that you’re taking the case seriously and are going to address it. If you’re aware of any outstanding bench warrants for you or someone you know, contact us to try to clear them up!
